Kalighat - Indian Painting

 Kalighat painting, a school of art founded in the city during the 19th century, is among those rich legacies the country continues to bask in today.
 Kalighat paintings are said to have originated in the vicinity of the iconic Klighat temple in Kolkata. At this time, the works were sold to visitors who sought souvenirs to take with them from the religious sanctuary. The art almost always depicted Hindu gods and mythological characters, or incidents, themes, and characters from everyday life.
Kalighat paintings were often a joint effort by a group of artists – usually from the same family. So while some members ground ingredients to create homemade dyes, others drew outlines of the figures, filled in the hues, or added the final touches in the form of motifs and background designs. These were then typically brought to be sold in the city.
This type of painting continues to influence and charm artists and art lovers in contemporary India. The late artist Jamini Roy is among some of the most acclaimed painters who have been influenced by the distinctive style.

Wycinanki, intricate paper cut-outs, has been a popular folk craft in Poland since the mid-19th century. They traditionally depicted scenes from daily life and were used to decorate cottages. In this workshop, kids tried the simple wycinanki designs with easy step by step instructions.  In Poland, the decorative cut-outs are mainly associated with two regions – Łowicz and Kurpie. The Kurpie cut-outs are made with a single sheet of paper and are thus totally symmetrical and only one colour. Those from the Łowicz area feature colourful designs built from layering the intricate cut-outs. Though traditionally hung as decorations in wi ndows, on walls, and from ceiling joints, today the classic designs are found everywhere. I have done this workshop to kids are aged 6 to 12 years old.. Kerala Mural Painting

Kerala mural paintings are the frescos depicting Hindu Mythlogy and legends, which are drawn on the walls of temples and churches in South India. The murals palette consists of five colours namely, yellow, red, green, black and white, prepared from mineral pigments and vegetables. The themes are depicted using common iconographic symbols from the Puranas like Ramayana and Mahabharatafrom the Hindu myt hology.

Interested in painting in the open air and capturing natural light, Monet would later bring the technique to one of its most famous pinnacles with his series paintings, in which his observations of the same subject, viewed at various times of the day, were captured in numerous sequences. Masterful as a colorist and as a painter of light and atmosphere, his later work often achieved a remarkable degree of abstraction, and this has recommended him to subsequent generations of abstract painters. Kids have done wonderful work in the workshop.
